Travel with us as we journey to Mongolia's
far west in search of the elusive snow
leopard and other endangered yet fascinating
species.
From 4750 USD per person
Venture into western Mongolia as we explore the heart of Mongolian wildlife, discover the vast array of creatures that call this region home, and search throughout the mountains for the elusive Snow Leopard.
On this adventure, we’ll fly out from the bustling capital, Ulaanbaatar, and head out to the far west of Mongolia.
The province of Khovd sits near the border with China and Kazakhstan and is one of the most beautiful regions in the entire country if not the continent. We’ll set out aboard our trusty 4x4s into the wilderness of this region in search of some of the world’s most incredible wildlife.
On our journey, we’ll search for wild horses, track down Saiga Antelope, and, of course, the elusive and majestic Snow Leopard. Whilst these beautiful cats are notorious for being difficult to track down, our local friends in the region have an incredible track record of catching a glimpse of Snow Leopards, so we’re in good hands on our adventure.
In addition to Snow Leopards, we may also catch a glimpse of the extremely rare Palla’s Cat, the Mongolian Gazelle, and the plethora of other flora and fauna which grace these incredible peaks and deep mountain valleys.
See below for more information on our Mongolia Snow Leopard Tour itinerary and highlights.

Please note! This tour has been specifically arranged to visit remote areas. As such it may have elements of an expedition about it, due to the nature and ruggedness of the terrain. Due to this, any change in itinerary at the time cannot be helped. We will do our best to keep to the advertised itinerary as closely as possible. However, please be aware that things are subject to change, especially if we encounter any extreme weather conditions. Along the way all tour decisions will rest with Rich (tour manager) and an expedition leader. We will also be taking advice from local people on the ground whose expertise will far exceed our own. The team we use to visit the snow leopards have a very high success rate although sightings can never be 100% guaranteed.

May Day is one of the best times to visit North Korea during the calendar year for the fine weather and festivities. Also known as International Workers’ Day, or Labour Day, May Day is a day off and locals take to the outdoors for picnics, dancing, and sports.

May Day is one of the best times to visit North Korea during the calendar year for the fine weather and festivities. Also known as International Workers’ Day, or Labour Day, May Day is a day off and locals take to the outdoors for picnics, dancing, and sports.
In addition to the highlights of the North Korean capital Pyongyang, including an exclusive full tour of the Pyongyang Metro, and historic Kaesong on the Demilitarised Zone (the North-South border), we’ll join in the celebrations as you experience North Korean culture like a local.
We have time for walks in the city, dining at some of Pyongyang’s most interesting restaurants, challenging a local company's team in volleyball, and shopping at the Kwangbok Department Store.
On this comprehensive tour, we will visit both the West and East Coast of Korea. We stay in Hamhung, North Korea's second-largest city, as well as the least visited Pujon Highlands for its natural beauty and revolutionary history. We visit here only once or twice a year, and it's a real treat each time.

This 6 night tour is an exploratory
adventure looking at remains left
from the Soviet period in Mongolia.
From 2100 USD per person
A unique tour exploring Mongolia's Soviet past.
Mongolia was never part of the Soviet Union. But as a Soviet satellite, it received guidance, money, expertise, and infrastructure. The latter of which remained long after the country's independence.
This adventure takes us in and around Ulaanbaatar as well as down to the Gobi desert, looking at the Soviet history of Mongolia.
We start within this nomadic nation's capital Ulaanbaatar where we'll explore dusty Soviet-era museums, wonder at bold 1950s architecture, and gaze at statues erected to red heroes and Russian giants.
Travelling on part of the trans-Mongolian railway, the tour will trundle south and explore abandoned apartments and once-sprawling Soviet bases. Built at the time of the Sino-Soviet split these large military installations were prepared for a war that was never to happen.

There is a famous saying in North Korea that 'Children are the Kings of the Country' and significant attention is devoted to children's upbringing and education. International Children's Day on June 1st is particularly important, and celebrations are held in recognition of children throughout North Korea.
This day is usually marked by student-oriented activities, events, and celebrations. We'll spend the holiday in the capital Pyongyang out and about in the city, visiting locations popular with schoolchildren and their families, letting out our inner child, and joining in the fun!
This tour is ideal for those who are looking for an active few days in North Korea and willing to take three extra days off for the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. Looking for a quick escape out of China? Put that zongzi down and look no further.
This action-packed 5-night getaway is an introduction to North Korea through outdoor and indoor activities. Early risers can have a morning run on Pyongyang's Sports Street and be overtaken by North Korean athletes during their morning training.
Get the rare chance to tour the highlights of Pyongyang by bike before finishing off at Munsu Water Park to relax with the locals.
This will also get you to the DMZ, the most heavily fortified border on earth, and a viewpoint of the Concrete Wall, an anti-tank barrier built in the 1970s by the south across the entire DMZ. The 45-minute scenic drive from Kaesong will also give you a rare insight into rural North Korea.
Why not escape China at one of its busiest times for Chinese National Day too?

Sun, sea, and sand… Yes, that’s right!
North Korea may not be known as a summer get-away, or indeed known for its beaches, but we think a summer package holiday in North Korea is far too underrated, and one of the best holiday destinations to give you one of the most unforgettable trips of a lifetime. Plus, you won’t have to worry about tourists crowding the beaches!
Our Summer Holiday Tour is an annual favorite that gives you the highlights of North Korea and more. This includes exploring the capital Pyongyang and historic Kaesong on the Korean Demilitarised Zone along the North-South Korean border. We will also take time to see the country's rarely visited east coast.
On the east coast, you will see the port city of Wonsan and the industrial center of Hamhung, while having the chance to explore the hiking trails in Mt Kumgang. The weather is beautiful at this time of year. Warm during the day but not too hot, making it one of the best holiday destinations this summer!

From 1600 USD per person
A short adventure for those who wish to see the great Gobi Desert in a short space of time. During this short but intensive tour, we delve deep into the Gobi Desert and become true explorers. Our first stop is at Mandalagovi.
This desert town was once home to factories during the Soviet Union period. Heading further south, we will check out the Yol Am Valley. This is located in the Gurvan Saikhan Mountain range. Before setting off on our hike, we will pay a visit to the small local natural history museum which includes strange exhibits and 10 million-year-old dinosaur eggs. During this Gobi Desert tour, we also visit the Khongor Sand Dunes, also known as the ‘Singing Dunes’ for the eerie noise they make when swept by the wind, as well as visiting Bayanzag.
This is otherwise known as ‘Flaming Cliffs' due to the rich red colouration of the clays and rocks which have been pushed up to form this landscape. All this, whilst checking out the herds of camels as we go, hiking through untouched and unexplored areas, enjoying breathtaking sunrises, and experiencing life in a Mongolia Ger tent.
If you’re looking for an even more unique experience, head to Mongolia for the Naadam Festival which directly precedes this Gobi Desert Explorer Tour.

Korea, from Pyongyang to the DMZ, Mount Paektu

Koryo Tours' annual Mega Tour every September is the ultimate journey to North Korea, and our longest and most comprehensive tour to the country.
We'll travel from Pyongyang, Panmunjom and the DMZ to stunning Mt Paektu, Mt Chilbo, and Mt Kumgang as well as the rarely-visited industrial cities of Chongjin, Hamhung, and Wonsan, plus much more!
The trip covers thousands of kilometres from the capital Pyongyang to the country's far north, south, east, and west by bus and internal flights.
On the way, we’ll stop by all the must-see tourist attractions. From massive political structures and monuments to pristine mountains, forests, and beaches to the socialist industry and agriculture that are the backbone of the DPRK economy.
We'll also be in Pyongyang for National Day, a major North Korean holiday, and see how North Koreans celebrate the 77th anniversary of the foundation of the DPRK (North Korea).
Get to know one of the least-understood countries in the world and its people as it stands at a crossroads in its relations with its long-time adversaries: South Korea and the United States. The best way to do this is to spend time in the country and meet and interact with local North Koreans through activities, sports, games, and serendipitous encounters.
A new addition to this tour is the visit to the Rason Special Economic Zone to see North Korea to its fullest like nobody before. This trip offers a unique chance for an overview of much of the country.
Take it from us; we've been travelling to North Korea for more than 30 years! Join us for this unforgettable trip of a lifetime.

and drive across Mongolia in
search of Kazakh Eagle hunters!
From 2800 USD per person
On this adventure, we’ll cross the vast steppe of Mongolia; traversing mountains and rivers, perilous ravines, and vast open lakes. All in search of Mongolia’s most majestic, and elusive creature – the Golden Eagle.
This trip will culminate in a visit to the Golden Eagle Festival in the far west of the country. A celebration where eagle hunters from across the region come together to compete in various challenges; using their magnificent hunting birds to catch artificial bait, dive from incredible heights, and return to their hunters on the mountaintops.
This is really an experience which must be seen to be believed, and an incredible reward for our multi-day expedition across some of the most beautiful landscapes the country, and the world, has to offer.
Experience the Kazakh Golden Eagle festival -- the biggest festival of the year for Kazakhs Visit Mongolian Kazak and Tuva nomadic families Enjoy camel trekking and horseback riding Hike the great mountains (with views across to Russia and China) Explore the Altai and Bayan Ulgii region of Mongolia Marvel at the skill of local eagle hunters. We'll stop at glaciers, mountains and waterfalls all the while sleeping in Tents, gers and yurts
Please note! This tour has been specifically arranged to visit these areas; it may have elements of an expedition about it due to the nature and ruggedness of the terrain. As such, any change in the itinerary at the time cannot be helped. We will keep to the advertised itinerary as closely as possible, although please be aware that things are subject to change, especially if we encounter extreme weather conditions. Along the way, all tour decisions will rest with Rich (tour manager) and an expedition leader. We will also be taking advice from local people on the ground whose expertise will far exceed our own.
If fewer than 5 passengers book, this tour will be led by a local leader only.
For those who have booked international flights, should there be any change in the scheduling of these or route cancellation, Koryo tours can not be held liable; however, our crew on the ground will do all they can to help find an alternate flight or make your stay as a little easier.
We insist that with all of our tours, you book comprehensive travel insurance not only to cover your dates of travel but your departure and return.

Go off the beaten track in the DPRK with Koryo
Tours!
From 2995 EUR per person
Head further off the tourist trail as we not only take you to North Korea, but we also head into little-explored areas on this two-week North Korea adventure.
We will explore Mt Paektu, the most sacred place in North Korea, as well as the industrial cities of Chongjin and Hamhung, as well as the country’s most scenic regions open to travellers.
This is Unseen North Korea.
Over this two week adventure, we spend a lot of our time on the move, making the most of what North Korea has to offer. We travel from the capital of Pyongyang and cross the width of the peninsula to North Korea's east coast and visit Hamhung, the country’s second-largest city and work our way along the beautiful coast road to major port city Wonsan and the stunning 'Diamond Mountain' area of Mt Kumgang.
It’s then off to the North Korea’s far north by special domestic charter flight to the volcanic Mt Paektu before flying to the rarely-visited North Hamgyong Province to visit Chongjin, the DPRK’s ‘city of steel’ and the city of Hoeryong on the Chinese border. We then take a well-needed relax as we hit the beaches and take a hike in the Mt Chilbo area before heading to Kyongsong and Rason SEZ (Special Economic Zone) bordering China and Russia, and exit across the bridge through Yanji in North-East China. Alternatively, you can return to Pyongyang from Chongjin on a domestic Air Koryo flight and return directly to Beijing.
This tour is perfect for people who have been to North Korea before and want to see more of the country, or those wanting an adventure! If you want something more conventional but almost as equally comprehensive, check out the 9-night National Day Long Tour.
