We are always looking for sports teams to take into Korea and can arrange friendly and competitive matches with a variety of local organisations; many sports are played to a decent or high level in North Korea and a tour by a basketball team, a martial arts squad, a ping pong delegation, or even a chess team would be very worthwhile and welcome in the country, very newsworthy for the teams taking part as well. Contact us with any ideas or sports trips; none are too wacky to be considered!
Football is the most popular sport in the DPRK, and while it may not be followed with quite the overwhelming passion of some European and South American nations, it is still something that people watch on TV, go to stadiums to see local teams taking part in, and have a general appreciation of.
See moreWhile not as widely played as volleyball or basketball, or as widely followed as football, ice hockey remains a popular sport in Pyongyang and in other parts of the DPRK.
See moreIn June 2012, Koryo Tours made history by organising the first ever basketball trip to the DPRK. The group from Coaches Team International was made up of 14 basketball coaches and players who were all travelling to Pyongyang for the first time to share their basketballing expertise with North Korean youth teams. The team did 2 training sessions -- the first at Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace and the second at Kang Bank Sok Middle School.
See moreDespite being one of the world’s biggest and most passionately-followed sports, cricket is almost unheard of the DPRK.
See moreThe growing game of Ultimate is not something anyone in North Korea had ever played prior to 2011. In fact, when tourists took a frisbee into the country they often found local people completely unaware of how to throw the disc, so this one was a real challenge – but at Koryo Tours, we love a challenge!
See moreOdd though it may seem there are long and strong links between the North Korean capital Pyongyang and the northern English industrial city of Middlesborough
