Koryo Tours is now accepting applications for the 2025 Pyongyang Marathon, April 6th 2025. Open to RUNNERS only. (Amateur runner entry)
Koryo Tours are now accepting applications for the Pyongyang Marathon 2025.
Koryo Tours, the official partner of the Pyongyang International Marathon, is now accepting a limited number of bookings for the 31st Pyongyang Marathon, scheduled for April 6, 2025.
We have been in direct communication with the Pyongyang Marathon Committee, who have informed us that the race is confirmed and that they can make a special invitiation for us to bring in amateur runners from abroad - for the first time since 2019!
You can view our Pyongyang Marathon 2025 tours here.
We have opened applications now, time is short though, and spaces are limited.
Many nationalities can now travel to China visa free - please check if this is the case for you. If you require a Chinese visa for this trip, it should be obtained in advance.
China's Transit Without Visa Scheme also applies for many other nationalities. This should be researched and checked in advance.
Koryo Tours will issue further updates as the exact itineraries get confirmed (more will be added), but the itinerary options will remain as they are and we ask those who are keen to join us to sign up as early as they can.
All developments will be shared through this platform, our social media channels, and our newsletter.
Also check out our official Pyongyang Marathon Website.
The 2025 Pyongyang Marathon is not a general tourist event - so only registered amateur runners will be allowed entry into Pyongyang, and non-runners, including companions, will not be permitted.
Every amateur runner who joins must participate in the race. but, there are four race options: full marathon, half marathon, 10km, and 5km. The time limits are:
This means that the shorter races can be run at a leisurely pace if you so desire. Longer races for the more keen and athletic perhaps - given the tighter time limits.
As Pyongyang remains closed to most foreign tourists, this trip will be strictly limited to marathon participants - it is NOT a general reopening, it is for participants in the Pyongyang International Marathon invited by the marathon committee.
As in March 2025, most nationalities can visit North Korea, except for South Korean, U.S., and Malaysian passport holders, who are restricted due to specific political and diplomatic reasons.
Other than running the race, the Koryo tour package will include visits to key sites in the capital, shopping, sites of historical and political significance will all be included, but there will be no excursions outside of Pyongyang.
All visitors will stay in the Sosan Hotel (in the Pyongyang Sports Village).
We can offer only two 5-night trip options, no variation on that is possible, and no private tour options. It is these two marathon packages only at this time.
There are no trains to Pyongyang operating at the moment; all participants will fly in and out of Beijing on Air Koryo.
All participants should be sure to be in Beijing at least 2 days in advance as the visa will need to be issued at the DPRK Embassy in Beijing.
These two packages include the flights (Beijing to Pyongyang return), accommodation, excursions around Pyongyang, meals, and guide services - plus of course the chance to run in the Pyongyang International Marathon.
The deadline for complete application is March 14th 2025.
Registration is now open, and the tours available can be found here:

Koryo Tours has already resumed travel to Rason, a Special Economic Zone near the Chinese and Russian borders.
Those interested in visiting North Korea can join one of our tours to Rason, with available spots now open for booking.

We will continue to share updates as we receive them and look forward to seeing runners at the Pyongyang Marathon 2025.
