Updated itineraries reveal new places to visit in North Korea
In August, Koryo Tours announced after receiving confirmation from our partners that North Korea was due to open in December 2024.
Unfortunately, this has been pushed back and seems less likely tours will resume by the end of the month. We await confirmation on a new date.
In the meantime, we have received confirmed new itineraries from our partners in Pyongyang.
These new North Korea tour itineraries contain a lot of previous classic spots. However, there are some new, exciting things to explore, too. This is mainly thanks to new buildings and construction that have gone on over the last 5 years.
We take a look at the new sites open for North Korea tours.
We first take a look at Samjiyon.
Samyijon is a newly developed area for tourists. We're excited to offer a range of sites previously unavailable.
This includes;
This school was originally built in 1957 and renovated in 2019. It has a main building, gymnasium, and playground. The main building accommodates classrooms for senior middle school students, along with practice rooms for gymnastic dance, computer circles, and labs for physics and chemistry.
The gymnasium includes a clinic, sports courts, changing rooms, bathrooms, a stage, a musical instrument storage room, and a makeup room.

In Pyongyang, there are also a few more new things we can visit.
A stroll on one of the newest streets of the North Korean capital opened in April 2023 after 14 months of construction.
These new buildings in Pyongyang finally became a new landmark of the city.

A popular site among local Koreans this Taedonggang beer bar features two large bottles at the entrance and the staircase inside a transparent draught beer bottle.
The restaurant offers various pitchers of Taedonggang beer ($1-$5) and an open-air service area on the second floor for rooftop bar enthusiasts.

The Kangdong Greenhouse Complex, recently opened in Pyongyang, is a large-scale agricultural development. It covers 260 hectares and features over 1,050 structures, including greenhouses, production facilities, public buildings, and residences.
At the centre of the project are “plant factory” greenhouses, which use cylindrical cultivation devices to maximise nutrient absorption and light efficiency, allowing for harvests within 20 days of seedling transplantation.
The facility incorporates advanced digital systems for precision farming, using real-time monitoring and automation to maintain optimal growing conditions.
Developed with domestically produced technology, the complex includes various greenhouse types and a surrounding residential area with public services.
Built within a year despite environmental challenges, the project is designed to supply produce to Pyongyang, aiming to enhance food production and availability.
