Details on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia travel restrictions to North Korea. Updated January 2025
The short answer is no. Malaysian citizens cannot travel to North Korea today.
As of 2024, Malaysia is the only country in Southeast Asia that does not maintain diplomatic relations with North Korea and bans its people from travelling to the country.
Relevant authorities in Malaysia confirmed in August 2024 that a travel ban remains in full effect.
All Malaysian citizens are strictly prohibited from travelling to the DPRK.
Unfortunately, Koryo Tours will not take those travelling on Malaysian passports to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (‘DPRK’ or ‘North Korea’). This is following the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia restriction, effective September 28, 2017.
We have also been advised that Malaysia does not recognise dual citizenship.
Therefore, all Malaysian citizens, even if they have a second non-Malaysian passport, are subject to the travel ban and are not permitted to enter the DPRK.
Koryo Tours also operates tours to other fascinating destinations, such as Mongolia, Central Asia, South Asia, Europe, and the ROK (South Korea).
Malaysian citizens are welcome to join on any of our international destination tours.
