This 6 night tour is an exploratory

A unique tour exploring Mongolia's Soviet past. This is a tour for travellers who want more than the ordinary. A chance to delve into Mongolia’s Soviet past through ruins, relics, stories, and landscapes few visitors ever see.
Mongolia was never part of the Soviet Union. But as a Soviet satellite, it received guidance, money, expertise, and infrastructure. The latter of which remained long after the country's independence. This adventure takes us in and around Ulaanbaatar and down to the Gobi Desert, looking at Mongolia's Soviet history.
Mongolia is steeped in Soviet history, and this 6-night Soviet Mongolia tour is an exploratory adventure through the country’s communist past. From the heart of Ulaanbaatar, the “Red Hero City”, to Soviet theatres, statues, museums, railway relics, and monuments to Mongolian-Soviet friendship, this journey brings Mongolia’s recent history vividly to life.
You will explore the remains of the Soviet period in person, from Lenin collections and grand Stalinist murals to the streets, squares, and buildings that still carry the legacy of red Mongolia.
Travelling on part of the trans-Mongolian railway, the tour will trundle south and explore abandoned apartments and once-sprawling Soviet bases. Built at the time of the Sino-Soviet split, these large military installations were prepared for a war that was never to happen.
The adventure then heads deep into the Gobi Desert, where abandoned Soviet military bases, radar stations, airfields, MiG-21 fighter jets, crumbling apartment blocks, and forgotten hangars make for an unforgettable urban exploration experience.
Only 30 to 40 years ago, these places were fully staffed, off-limits, and official Soviet secrets. Today, they offer a rare and fascinating window into Cold War history on the Mongolian steppe.
