North and South
Koreans perform
joint concert

The performance with Kim Song Mi and Won Hyung Joon was 10 years in the making

We're delighted that South Korean violinist Won Hyung Joon has performed in concert with North Korean soprano Kim Song Mi.

We have been in contact with Won for several years. The classical violinist, the Artistic Director of the Lindenbaum Festival Orchestra, has been trying to put together a united Korean orchestra for 10 years. This idea is inspired by the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, founded in 1999, which brings together Arab and Israeli musicians to promote mutual understanding.

This month, Won's dreams came true when he performed with a North Korean opera singer in Shanghai. The wonderful concert was the product of a decade of his hard work – let's hope we will be seeing more in the near future.
