This is an Afghanistan tour designed by women, for women.

    Spanning the stunning landscapes and rich histories of Afghanistan, we will visit the main provinces;

    Kabul
    Herat
    Bamiyan
    Kandahar
    Mazar

Experience the warmth of Afghan hospitality, the resilience of its communities, and the inspiring stories of Afghan women, while also witnessing the breathtaking beauty of Afghanistan’s historic landmarks, bustling markets, and tranquil national parks.

This is a truly in-depth tour to Afghanistan that spans two weeks, taking you from Afghanistan’s most liberal provinces to its most conservative. We will travel by road and air, enjoying Afghanistan’s breathtaking landscapes and best mountain scenery on stunning road trips through the country as well as from up above.

You will begin the tour in Kabul where you will have an opportunity to visit local markets, including the famous Bird Market and Chicken Street, and shop for some local attire, before crossing off Kabul’s highlights including the National Museum.

We will spend three days in Bamiyan taking part in multiple exclusive women-focused activities, visiting the former site of the Buddhas of Bamiyan, and of course, enjoying boating on the beautiful Band-e-Amir Lake*.

We delve deep into the history and culture of Herat as we visit the Herat Citadel, the Caravansarai of Mukhtarzada, and the Friday Mosque, and spend one night in the conservative province of Kandahar

In Mazar, we will visit a local family’s house to have dinner and experience the life of a local Afghan family, as well as pay a visit to the famous Blue Mosque and the ancient city of Balkh

    Women-Focused Activities

Apart from the highlights, we will also take part in several women-focused activities.
Discover vibrant craft and artisan markets, where hundreds of licensed female vendors showcase their skills. Here, you can shop for beautiful handmade items while directly supporting women in the community. In a more hands-on experience, join a local embroidery class led by artisans who have turned their traditional craft into a sustainable livelihood.

We will also visit multiple organisations dedicated to catering to the development and empowerment of local women and children.

Food lovers will enjoy a traditional cooking class, learning how to prepare authentic Afghan dumplings – both vegetarian and meat options are available. For dining, there are opportunities to savour delicious meals at restaurants owned and run by women, featuring female chefs passionate about showcasing Afghan cuisine. And if coffee is more of your thing, we’ll also have a chance to enjoy some coffee brewed at the local female-run coffee shop.

(A complete women-focused activity list will be provided upon booking).

  • Overall

Designed as an accessible introduction to Afghanistan, combining essential sites, rich history, and natural wonders, travel with us to a land of immense cultural heritage, truly breathtaking landscapes, and unparalleled history.

Our Travel Afghanistan tour is a 2-week journey taking you through the heart of the country, exploring its most iconic provinces: Kabul, Herat, Mazar-i-Sharif, and Kandahar, Bamiyan, Band-e-Amir Lakes, and the opportunity to visit Helmand.

We travel by both domestic flight and by road across this vast country.

    Kabul

We start in the lively, bustling city of Kabul, with too much going on at once and far too much to explore. We will wander through the tranquil Babur Gardens, visit the National Museum, and enjoy the majestic Darul Aman Palace. We will also take a stroll along the famous Chicken Street, Bird Market, and Bookshop from the novel ‘Bookseller from Kabul’.

We will also have the unique opportunity to visit Future Hope Charity Organisation, an orphanage in Kabul, home to 111 children. We will spend time meeting both the staff and the children, learning about all the good work they do. A percentage of each of our tour profits will go to FHCO.

    Mazar-i-Sharif

From recent history to ancient history. In Mazar-i-Sharif, we will visit the beautiful turquoise domes of the Blue Mosque, a stunning centre of Islamic art and spirituality, and explore the ancient ruins of Balkh, known as the "Mother of Cities."

    Herat

In Herat, we visit the intricately designed Friday Mosque, explore the ancient Herat Citadel, visit the Tile Workshop, and go to the fascinating Jihad Museum.

    Helmand

We then set off for an epic road trip right through the centre of the country, where we have the opportunity to visit Helmand. This is a region few travellers have had the privilege to explore. You'll pass by the historic Camp Bastion and Camp Leatherneck, key sites during the US and British military presence.

Here, we will visit the Ancient City of Bost, a famous site over 2,000 years old and appearing on one of the banknotes.

    Kandahar

Finally, we take a trip to Afghanistan’s most conservative province of Kandahar - one with deep historical roots.

Visit the sacred cloak of the Prophet Muhammad at the Tomb of Ahmad Shah Durrani, climb the Forty Steps for sweeping views, and even visit the peaceful Sufi Shrine just outside the city.

This tour is the first part of our epic ‘Afghanistan Mega Tour’, which travels to over 15 provinces in Afghanistan over 30 days. This part visits the most popular sites in Afghanistan.

If you have been to Afghanistan before or simply wish to go off the beaten path and have an adventure, consider the second part, our Unseen Afghanistan Tour. 18 nights exploring Afghanistan’s rural landscapes, rugged history, and the famous Minaret of Jam UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    Highlights

    • Walk through Kabul’s old streets, bazaars, and gardens, tracing centuries of history and culture.
    • Discover Kandahar and Helmand, the southern heartland of Afghan history, from Alexander the Great to today, and drive past Camp Bastion and Camp Leatherneck, the biggest UK & US military bases.
    • Journey west to Herat, the pearl of Khorasan, with its Timurid mosques, citadel, and vibrant bazaars - famous still today for its vibrant culture, art, and poetry.

  • Overall

    30 days, 15 provinces, 1 epic tour.

Travel all of Afghanistan’s main cities and provinces, as well as some of the rarely visited but extremely beautiful countryside and undiscovered history - including the UNESCO World Heritage Site Minaret of Jam, one of the world’s tallest minarets. Not a tour for the faint-hearted, but one where stunning landscapes, local food, and ancient history will not disappoint!

Designed for curious, resilient travellers who want to see all sides of Afghanistan, this 30-day Afghanistan Mega Tour is our most comprehensive journey yet. A full month exploring the country’s best-known cities, remote valleys, and little-visited provinces in one epic loop.

    PART 1 - AFGHANISTAN HIGHLIGHTS

We begin in Kabul, where you’ll ease into life in Afghanistan with time to get to know the group, explore the capital, and gain important context for the weeks ahead. We visit historic highlights such as the National Museum and Babur Gardens, and also visit Future Hope Charity Organisation (FHCO), a registered orphanage housing over 100 children, where a portion of this tour's profits goes to support their work.

From there, we head out on the road, following the historic route between Kabul, Ghazni, and Kandahar, stopping at Ghazni’s minarets and war museum before arriving in Afghanistan’s most conservative major city.

Continuing south and west, we travel through Helmand, home to the Ancient City of Bost and the Helmand River, before crossing desert landscapes past former coalition bases Camp Bastion and Camp Leatherneck. From here, the journey turns north to Herat, where we go behind the scenes to witness the creation of the intricate tiles of the Friday Mosque and imposing Herat Citadel.

We take a domestic flight back to Kabul to travel to Mazar-i-Sharif, where the turquoise domes of the Blue Mosque and the ruins of Balkh, the “Mother of Cities”, connect you back to Central Asia’s ancient trading world.

The itinerary then heads into the highlands. In Bamiyan, we explore the Buddhas of Bamiyan site, the ruined hilltop cities of Zuhak and Gholghola, and enjoy the beautiful turquoise lakes of the Band-e-Amir National Park.

    PART 2 - RURAL AFGHANISTAN

From Bamiyan, the real adventure begins.

We push further into the central highlands to Firozhoh (Ghor) and on to the remote Minaret of Jam, a 12th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site set in a narrow river valley. Reaching Jam is a genuine achievement. A journey that many Afghans regard as a kind of pilgrimage. We mark it by camping overnight beside the river with our own cook team.

Turning north and east, we traverse rugged mountain roads to Kunduz and then into Badakhshan, one of Afghanistan’s most scenic and least-visited regions. Here we explore Faizabad, venture towards Ishkashim on the edge of the Wakhan, and have time to enjoy local village life, high-altitude valleys, and Badakhshan’s famous honey and lapis lazuli. The route then swings south into the legendary Panjshir Valley, long associated with Ahmad Shah Massoud and Afghan resistance. Here, we camp near the valley and visit his hilltop mausoleum overlooking the river.

In the final section of the tour, we head east to Kunar and Nuristan – lands of forested slopes, fast-flowing rivers, and distinctive cultures. We have a chance to hike through terraced fields and remote villages around Parun. Descending to Jalalabad, a historic winter capital at the junction of the Kabul and Kunar rivers, we then take one of Afghanistan’s most dramatic drives back to Kabul along National Highway 08, following the river through deep gorges, dams, and cliff-hugging bends.

    WHAT TO EXPECT

Throughout the month, we deliberately mix guesthouses, local hotels, camping nights, and one stay at the historic Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul, giving you a sense of Afghanistan from many angles. From simple chaikhanas on mountain passes to the faded grandeur of a once-iconic international hotel.

You’ll travel with an experienced local team, including cooks on camping sections, and have frequent chances to meet local communities, try regional dishes (from pomegranates in Kandahar to yak meat in Badakhshan), and see how sharply landscapes and cultures shift from one province to the next.

This Mega Tour links Afghanistan’s classic highlights – Kabul, Herat, Mazar, Bamiyan, Kandahar – with remote regions such as Helmand, Ghor, Badakhshan, Nuristan, Kunar, Panjshir, and the Minaret of Jam.

A truly rare opportunity to see the country in all its diversity.

Whether this is your first visit or a long-awaited return, it is designed as the most in-depth, overland exploration of Afghanistan you can experience in a single journey.

This tour is our epic ‘Afghanistan Mega Tour’, which travels to over 15 provinces in Afghanistan over 30 days. If you’re looking for something shorter, this tour can be split into two groups.

Part 1 is our Travel Afghanistan Summer Tour, visiting the most popular sites in Afghanistan.

Part 2 is our Unseen Afghanistan Tour and focuses on going off the beaten path and having an adventure.

This group will be limited to a small group of 8 people, as is for the true adventurer. The drives are long, the accommodations local, but the rewards in the culture, history, and landscapes are far worth it.

    Highlights

    • Visit Afghanistan’s most popular provinces (Kabul, Herat, Mazar, Bamiyan, Kandahar), experience the sharp contrasts in the culture (and the food!), and tick off all the highlights from each.
    • Enjoy local-style living as we stay in local guesthouses, explore local villages, and even spend time camping in Afghanistan’s most rural areas as we travel with our own team of chefs and intrepid travellers.
    • See landscapes of Afghanistan few travellers have seen before as we head north, east, south and west to the far corners of the country, to the unique culture of Nuristan, the valleys and rivers of Badakhshan, and Kunar’s dramatic forested mountains.
    • Cross Afghanistan’s wild central highlands to the Minaret of Jam, a UNESCO site and sacred pilgrimage, where you will earn the name Jami.
  • Extras

    • Upgrade to your own room in Afghanistan

  • What is / is not included?

This tour contains a lot of driving. In the more rural regions, there may be no accessible Western-style toilet for both during the drives and at the accommodations, and there may be limited food options (meat, rice, bread are always available). From 6500 USD per person

  • Overall

An 18-day expedition into Afghanistan’s remote and less-travelled regions. Starting in Bamiyan, cross into the wild central highlands and Turquoise Mountain to reach the Minaret of Jam. Continue north to Badakhshan and Panjsher, before journeying east to Kunar, Nuristan, and Jalalabad.

Adventurous and exploratory, with rugged drives, homestays, and cultural encounters in valleys rarely seen by outsiders.

This 18-day journey is designed for travellers who want to see Afghanistan beyond the capital and the classic “highlights”, combining historic sites with remote valleys, quiet provincial towns, and some of the country’s most striking mountain landscapes.

Bamiyan & The Minaret of Jam

Fly into Kabul and explore the city before heading straight into the highlands in Bamiyan. The road climbs through stark mountain scenery with many chances to stop for tea, snacks, and, depending on the season, fresh honey and raw rhubarb.

From Bamiyan, you will head west into increasingly remote territory, crossing the Bakkak Pass and Sarjangal towards Firozhoh (Chaghcharan), capital of Ghor Province

Firozhoh, set on the Hari River and ringed by open sky and mountains, serves as a staging point for reaching one of Afghanistan’s most important historical sites. The Minaret of Jam.

Reaching Jam is a genuine accomplishment and is considered by many Afghans as a pilgrimage. You follow the river valley to this 12th-century brick minaret, a UNESCO World Heritage Site decorated with Kufic inscriptions and geometric brickwork, standing alone in a narrow gorge.

Here we will camp by the river, with a private cook team, and have time simply to sit, walk, and take in the setting after the effort of the journey.

    Kunduz, Badakhshan, Wakhan

The route then swings north. We travel by road to Kunduz, a day of high passes, dust, and long views broken by tea stops in roadside chaikhanas and simple mountain lunches. From here, the journey continues into Badakhshan, one of Afghanistan’s most scenic and least visited regions.

The drive crosses the Erganak Desert and passes through Takhar before the terrain softens into green valleys and bright rivers. Badakhshan will be your base for several days, allowing time to explore Faizabad, venture towards Ishkashim on the edge of the Wakhan, and get a feel for everyday life in this Pamir region.

You will have the chance to sample yak meat, visit local markets, and, if conditions allow, drive out to Lake Shiva, as well as see the landscapes linked to Badakhshan’s long history of lapis lazuli mining and honey production.

    Panjshir Valley

Leaving Badakhshan, the tour turns south and west into the Panjshir Valley, a place strongly associated with Ahmad Shah Massoud and modern Afghan history. The approach involves another full day of mountain roads, moving from remote upland villages to the green riverbanks and terraced fields of Panjshir.

    Kunar, Nuristan, Jalalabad

The final section of the tour focuses on eastern Afghanistan as we travel to Kunar, a province of forested mountains and fast-flowing rivers along the Kunar (Chitral) River, then continue on rougher tracks to Nuristan, with its wooden houses, distinctive languages, and rich local folklore.

A full day in Nuristan includes time in Parun and a 3-5 hour hike through terraced fields and forested slopes, offering rare access to one of Afghanistan’s most culturally unique regions.

Descending from Nuristan, you reach Jalalabad, a city of gardens and orange groves at the junction of the Kabul and Kunar rivers. Once a Mughal and Afghan winter capital, it provides a softer end to the overland section of the journey, with time to explore the city and reflect on how strongly climate and geography shape Afghan life.

Our tour concludes with one of the country’s most dramatic drives. The Kabul–Jalalabad Highway (NH08), following the Kabul River through gorges, past dams and cliff faces, back to the capital.

    What to Expect

Across these 18 days, you will stay in a mix of guesthouses, simple local hotels, camping spots, and a night in ‘the finest hotel in Kabul’, the historic Intercontinental Hotel - once a flagship international property, now a faded but still atmospheric landmark overlooking the city.

You will cross a wide range of landscapes from the central plateau to the Pamir foothills, and visit some of Afghanistan’s most historically significant and least visited regions.

It is a compact but in-depth overland journey for those who want to go far beyond the standard Kabul–Bamiyan circuit and experience Afghanistan’s highlands, valleys, and eastern provinces in detail.

This tour is part 2 of our epic ‘Afghanistan Mega Tour’ which travels to over 15 provinces in Afghanistan over 30 days. It is rugged, raw, and requires an adventurous spirit as we travel to rural locations, camp, and stay in local-style guesthouses and hotels.

If you want a more standard tour to Afghanistan in the summer, covering the highlights and popular tourist destinations.

Check out our Travel Afghanistan Summer Tour here.

Or, if you want to visit all the highlights and get off the beaten path, spend a month in Afghanistan for our full Travel Afghanistan Mega Tour.

  • Overall

The shorter version of our signature women's tour to Afghanistan. Following the success of our two Afghanistan women's tours in 2025 and the 2026 Afghanistan women's tour selling out in days, we are introducing one more women-only tour for 2026.

Blend cultural immersion, breathtaking landscapes, and empowering encounters with Afghan women and communities on this unique tour, travelling to the best that Afghanistan has on offer alongside Afghan women.

Koryo Tours’ Afghan Sisters Travel Afghanistan signature women’s tour offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect with local women and explore Afghanistan through a uniquely female perspective.

This is an Afghanistan tour designed by women, for women.

    It focuses on learning about the lives of Afghan women in various contexts, whilst taking in the many highlights Afghanistan has to offer in three of the main provinces;

    Kabul
    Herat
    Bamiyan

Experience the warmth of Afghan hospitality, the resilience of its communities, and the inspiring stories of Afghan women, while also witnessing the breathtaking beauty of Afghanistan’s historic landmarks, bustling markets, and tranquil national parks.

Travelling by air and road, from the more liberal to the deeply traditional, we check off must-see destinations while gaining deep insights into the daily lives of its people.

Beginning and ending in Kabul, the tour starts with a chance to settle in, explore local markets, visit the National Museum, and enjoy the peaceful Babur Gardens. We’ll then fly to Herat, where you’ll explore the historic Friday Mosque and Herat Citadel, before starting our scenic road trip to Bamiyan.

Bamiyan is home to the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Buddhas of Bamiyan, and the beautiful turquoise lake of Band-e-Amir*. We spend three nights in Bamiyan to explore the sites, and also to take part in numerous unique women-focused activities.

A percentage of every booking on our Afghanistan tours is donated either to the Women's Retreat Center (Afghan Sisters Tours) or Future Hope Charity Organisation orphanage in Kabul. You can also donate to each of these privately.

This Afghanistan tour takes you by plane on domestic flights as well as road, through the vibrant streets of Kabul, the cultural gems of Mazar-i-Sharif, and the spiritual depth of Herat, conservative Kandahar, a road trip through the country passing Helmand, and the ancient ruins of Bamiyan and Band-e-Amir Lakes to provide a really in-depth exploration of this largely untouched land.

We start in Kabul. A lively, bustling city with too much going on at once and far too much to explore. Wander through the tranquil Babur Gardens, visit the National Museum, and enjoy the majestic Darul Aman Palace. We will also take a stroll along the famous Chicken Street introduces you to the vibrant local market scene, while a visit to Wazir Akbar Khan Hill rewards you with stunning panoramic views of the capital.

You then visit one of Afghanistan’s most iconic provinces; Bamiyan. Located 3000m above sea level and home to the Buddhas of Bamiyan and the beautiful blue colours of the Band-e-Amir Lake, Bamiyan’s landscapes and history have so much to offer.

In Mazar-i-Sharif, we will visit the beautiful turquoise domes of the Blue Mosque, a stunning centre of Islamic art and spirituality, and explore the ancient ruins of Balkh, known as the "Mother of Cities."  Similarly in Herat, we visit the intricately designed Friday Mosque, explore the ancient Herat Citadel, and wander through the Caravansarai of Mukhtarzada.

We then set off for an epic road trip right through the center of the country where we have the opportunity to visit Helmand and visit the fascinating Ancient City of Bost.

We then take a trip to Afghanistan’s most conservative province of Kandahar - one with deep historical roots. Visit the sacred cloak of the Prophet Muhammad at the Tomb of Ahmad Shah Durrani, climb the Forty Steps for sweeping views, and experience the lively Sarposh Bazaar.

All meals, and activities are included on this trip, as well as all transportation including domestic flights.

Travel Afghanistan Tour

12 days - Kabul, Mazar, Herat,
Helmand, Kandahar (plus Buzkashi)

Travel Afghanistan on a winter roadtrip
across the country, visiting Afghanistan's
highlights and the remote Ancient City
of Bost.

From 4800 USD per person

  • Overall

Travel with us to a land of unparalleled culture, history, and truly breathtaking landscapes.

Our Travel Afghanistan tour takes you through the heart of the country, exploring its most iconic provinces:

    Kabul

    Herat

    Mazar-i-Sharif

    Kandahar

    Helmand

In Kabul, a lively, bustling city with too much going on at once and far too much to explore, wander through the tranquil Babur Gardens, visit the National Museum, and enjoy the majestic Darul Aman Palace. We will also take a stroll along the famous Chicken Street and Bird Market, introducing you to the vibrant local market scene. A visit to Wazir Akbar Khan Hill will give you stunning panoramic views of the capital.

We will also have the unique opportunity to visit Future Hope Charity Organisation (FHCO Kabul), an orphanage in Kabul, home to 111 children. We will spend time meeting both the staff and the children, learning about all the good work they do. A percentage of each of our tour profits will go to FHCO.

From recent history to ancient history, in Mazar-i-Sharif we will visit the beautiful turquoise domes of the Blue Mosque, a stunning centre of Islamic art and spirituality. Here, we explore the ancient ruins of Balkh, known as the "Mother of Cities." Here, we will see Buzkashi. Central Asia’s most iconic sport. A raw, high-adrenaline horseback contest where riders battle for control of a goat carcass in a display of strength, strategy, and serious horsemanship.

In Herat, we visit the beautifully designed Friday Mosque, explore the ancient Herat Citadel, visit the Tile Workshop showing the craftsmanship behind the intricate blue tiles, and go to the fascinating Jihad Museum.

We then set off for an epic road trip to a region few travellers have had the privilege to explore in Helmand. You will pass by the historic Camp Bastion and Camp Leatherneck, key sites during the US and British military presence.

On this trip, we will have the rare opportunity to visit Helmand, one of Afghanistan’s least-visited but friendliest provinces, famous for its recent history and the 3000-year-old Ancient City of Bost, one of the most important historical sites in Afghanistan. We travel by both domestic flight and by road across this vast country.

Finally, we take a trip to Afghanistan’s most conservative province of Kandahar, one with deep historical roots. Visit the sacred cloak of the Prophet Muhammad at the Tomb of Ahmad Shah Durrani, climb the Forty Steps for sweeping views, and visit the peaceful Sufi Shrine just outside the city.

This thoughtfully crafted itinerary takes you from ancient history to recent events, immersing you in Afghanistan’s breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and fascinating past. With expert local guides, this tour is a rare opportunity to experience the soul of Afghanistan, offering both highlights and hidden gems across its storied regions.

We don't publish our Afghanistan itineraries for safety reasons.

Please contact us for more information and the itinerary at [email protected].

Note: Because of weather conditions, we have not added Bamiyan to this group tour. Bamiyan is home to the famous Buddhas of Bamiyan and Band-e-Amir Lake. If you wish to visit this after the tour, we can help you to arrange it depending on the road conditions. During the winter period, there is also skiing available. At the start of the first day in every new province, we must take a trip to the local ministry to get travel permits. This can take a few minutes or a couple of hours. The duration of this may affect our itinerary items.

    Highlights

    • Explore Afghanistan's main provinces of Kabul, Herat, Mazar, and Kandahar, including a road trip to Helmand, passing by the old US and British military bases.
    • Visit a local orphanage, learn about the hard work of FHCO and engage with both the local children and staff.
    • Ancient City of Bost, a 3000 year-old city in the middle of Afghanistan’s second biggest province.

  • Notes

This tour is limited to 12 participants only and will give priority to those who have travelled with us before.

A tour to Afghanistan is unlike any other, and there are certain restrictions we must follow whilst on tour, especially for women. If you are uncomfortable with or have any questions on any of the topics below, do let us know.

    SAFETY

The safety of both our tour participants and the local guides we are working with is our number one priority. We have taken all the relevant safety precautions to create this trip and are constantly in contact with local partners.

As part of safety protocol, we aim to go above and beyond rather than doing the bare minimum in terms of respecting local cultural norms. As well as for safety reasons, you will find that this will make our travel experience a lot more pleasant and will help to ensure tours can take place in the future too.

We will move as a group together at all times. We recommend that both men and women wear local clothing. This will help us to blend in as a group.

Women must always be fully covered wearing loose fitting clothing from head to toe, including having hair covered at all times. Read more about what to wear as a woman in Afghanistan here.

Our team includes safety personnel and a safety vehicle equipped with radios and a satellite telephone.

    ITINERARY

Due to the nature of this tour, the itinerary items are all subject to availability and the safety situation on the ground. Of course, we hope that every one of them will be possible and we have planned the tour accordingly.

However, each activity will be assessed in the lead-up to and on the day of the tour, and the safety of both the tour participants and Afghan local partners and guides will be prioritised.

In case an activity must be cancelled last minute, it will be replaced with something else.

Our recent trips to Afghanistan were led without any difficulties and all itinerary items could be carried out, but you never know when or how the situation changes.

This tour contains long drives, some up to 14 hours. All quoted driving times are approximate and depend on road conditions and checkpoints.

    AFGHANISTAN VISA

We suggest entering Afghanistan via Dubai. You can get your visa from the Afghanistan Consulate in Dubai before the trip. It is a same-day visa, often ready in less than an hour if you go early. There are then multiple flights from Dubai to Kabul at a reasonable cost.

You can fly to Kabul in the afternoon on the same day, but it is recommended to get the visa at least one day in advance to allow for any unforeseen complications. Further, we recommend latest arrival in Kabul to be early afternoon.

We will provide visa support, including an invitation letter and other supporting documents, but you must arrange the visa yourself.

    HOW TO BOOK

Please contact us for more information and the itinerary at [email protected].

After contacting us and confirming your spot on the tour, you can book through our website.

Upon booking confirmation, you will be provided with a PDF of the complete itinerary including all activities and dates. Before the tour, you will be given a detailed booklet with pre-tour information and guidance.

Note: It is mandatory to attend an online pre-tour briefing for this tour and the itinerary is subject to change depending on safety and availability.

Please apply by 6th January, 2027.

  • Overall

One of the shortest but most in-depth and intense introductions to Afghanistan there is. We spend just over a week travelling Afghanistan’s iconic cities and sites accompanied by both male and female local guides who will provide context to this vast and complex land.

Travelling by air and road, we check off must-see destinations while gaining deep insights into the daily lives of its people through specially curated cultural activities.

We visit the bustling capital of Kabul, the beautiful Bamiyan and Band-e-Amir region, and also Herat, the cultural and arts capital of Afghanistan.

This cultural tour to Afghanistan is perfect for those who want to gain a fuller understanding of the country both beyond the headlines, and beyond the tourist sites.

Kabul | In Kabul, the tour starts with a chance to settle in, get a local suit tailored, explore the Bird Market and famous Chicken Street, as well as visiting the National Museum, and enjoy the peaceful Babur Gardens. We spend our first evening at FHCO Orphanage* learning about their incredible work and having dinner with the children.

Bamiyan | Bamiyan is home to the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Buddhas of Bamiyan, and the beautiful turquoise lakes of Band-e-Amir. We take the scenic drive through Afghanistan’s central mountain range to spend two nights in Bamiyan to explore the sites, and also to take part in numerous unique women-focused activities.

We will visit the local artisan markets, where licensed female vendors showcase their skills. Here, you can shop for beautiful handmade items while directly supporting women in the community.

In Bamiyan we spend the afternoon at a Women’s Center, where we can enjoy a more hands-on experience taking part in an embroidery class led by artisans who have turned their traditional craft into a sustainable livelihood. • Overall

A cultural and historic exploration into a complex country, this tour to Afghanistan is like no other. Led by local female and male tour guides, we spend over two weeks in Afghanistan visiting all five of the main provinces, seeing the must-see highlights and taking part in exclusive cultural activities.

Visit the Bird Market in Kabul, the Buddhas of Bamiyan, Herat Citadel, the Blue Mosque of Mazar, and conservative Kandahar. Take part in a cooking class, meet the managers of women-run businesses, and have dinner with the children of a local orphanage.

Travelling by air and road, from the more liberal to the deeply traditional, we check off must-see destinations while gaining deep insights into the daily lives of its people and learning about the complex lives of Afghan women in various contexts.

This cultural tour to Afghanistan is perfect for those who want to gain a fuller understanding of the country both beyond the headlines and beyond the tourist sites.

Kabul | Beginning and ending in Kabul, the tour starts with a chance to settle in, explore local markets, visit the National Museum, and enjoy some of the best food Afghanistan has to offer. We will learn about the important work of the OMAR Landmine Museum helping to de-mine the country, and spend an evening at Future Hope Charity Organisation* learning about their work and getting to know the children.

Herat | We will then fly to Herat, where you will explore the historic Friday Mosque and Herat Citadel, as well as visiting initiatives such as a women-run organic soap factory and a family-run cafe for some saffron ice cream and coffee.

Bamiyan | Bamiyan is home to the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Buddhas of Bamiyan, and the beautiful turquoise lake of Band-e-Amir. Here, we will spend the afternoon at a women’s center* taking part in various activities such as henna, embroidery, and a cooking class to make Afghan dumplings (ashak).

Mazar | This in-depth tour to Afghanistan takes the adventurous drive through the Hindu Kush mountains to Mazar, where we will visit the famous Blue Mosque, visit a local family’s house for dinner, and explore the ancient city of Balkh.

Kandahar | Afghanistan’s most conservative province, full of interesting ancient and recent history and religious sites, visiting Kandahar offers a contrast to the varied realities women in Afghanistan face today.

Travel with us on this specially curated tour to Afghanistan, spending two weeks visiting Afghanistan’s most iconic sites and cities, plus a few added hidden gems along the way.

Located 3000 metres above sea level and home to the Buddhas of Bamiyan and the beautiful blue colours of Band-e-Amir Lake, Bamiyan’s landscapes and history have so much to offer.

In Herat, we visit the beautifully designed Friday Mosque, explore the ancient Herat Citadel, visit the Tile Workshop showing the craftsmanship behind the intricate blue tiles, and go to the fascinating Jihad Museum.

We then set off for an epic road trip to a region few travellers have had the privilege to explore in Helmand and the Ancient City of Bost, a city with over 3,000 years of history. You will pass by the historic Camp Bastion and Camp Leatherneck, key sites during the US and British military presence.

I travelled to Afghanistan on the women's only tour with Zoe in late May 2025 and it was an epic two weeks, exceeding all expectations in every way. Zoe’s knowledge of Afghanistan and her passion for women’s travel provided us with unique opportunities to connect with local women and communities in ways that would not have been possible otherwise. I left with a profound understanding of the realities women face in Afghanistan today, and their resilience, in incredibly challenging times. We felt safe at all times, and I left this trip with new yet lifelong friends who share the same values and love for travel. You will come to discover Afghanistan, but you might just end up finding yourself here too. Book that trip!

I joined in October a small group organized by koryo tour to afganistan.
Even though travelling with a group is not my best choice i have to admit i enjoyed. The tour leader Zoe was very nice and patient. The organization was perfect and also all the local guides were very friendly and professional. I definitely do recommend to join koryo tour to travel alone or with a group. Thanks again to koryo tour.

Tour: Travel Afghanistan Cultural Tour

Over the past 18 years, I have participated in 10 tours organized by Koryogroup. Since September 2024, I have participated in three trips to the Pamir Highway, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. My experience with Koryogroup is unwaveringly positive, the trips have been very interesting experiences. Koryogroup's DNA is "off-the-beaten-path" destinations, and they manage to put together exciting programs. I would highly recommend traveling with Koryogroup to people who want unusual travel experiences. But for the record: this is not for beginners.

Tour: Afghanistan, Bangladesh & Pamir Highway

I had the pleasure of joining Zoe and Somaya on the first ever Afghan Sisters Tour! It was a fantastic two weeks; well curated site visits and things to do, all of which gave small insights to the lives of women in Afghanistan. Our trip had a few curve balls (delayed luggage, hospital trips…!) and Zoe handled it all with professionalism, agility and empathy. Very grateful to the team for putting together the trip and sharing Afghanistan’s wonders with us! This is my second trip with Koryo and I couldn’t recommend them more!
