It has been reported that North Korea is barring US citizens holding a non-US passport from entry to North Korea, even if they are travelling on their non-US passport. What do we know so far?
It was reported on 17 June 2026 that North Korea is banning US dual citizens from visiting the country.
The report stated that US citizens holding a passport from another country and wishing to travel on their non-US passport are barred from entry to the DPRK.
Our DPRK counterpart advised that Russian visitors holding US or ROK citizenship are barred from entry to the DPRK (North Korea).
No visas are issued to such individuals.
At the time of writing, there is no broader regulation in effect, as only Russian tourists are allowed to visit North Korea.
For Pyongyang Marathon 2026, no such policy has been stated by our partners.
As future events are not confirmed as of yet, we were not advised otherwise.
For future events in North Korea organised by Koryo Tours, Koryo Tours will advise about North Korean visa policy in effect at the time of visa application.
