Rason North
Korea Opens
to Tourism

Rason North Korea opens to tourism. Rason Special Economic Zone will be the first area open to tourists since closure in January 2020.

 📅 16TH JAN 2025 UPDATE

Rason has opened its borders to tourism

There has been news that Rason, located in the northeast of North Korea, has officially opened for tourism.

Whilst we have been informed it has officially opened, as of yet we do not have confirmed itineraries and prices for tourists. It remains to be seen if they will permit private tours and to what capacity they will permit group tours, and what activities will be available.

We will keep you updated once we have more official confirmation.

We are working on itineraries and will get information and tours up as soon as possible.

For now, see below on some key information.

  • China Transit Visa NOT valid for travel to Rason (you will need a full Chinese visa to travel). Read more
  • Rason is a Special Economic Zone bordering Russia and China.
  • The rest of North Korea is NOT yet open to tourism. It is only the Rason SEZ.
  • There are very few English speaking guides in Rason, so there will be a limited capacity of tours.
  • The Pyongyang Marathon for 2025 is not yet confirmed.
  • Rason is home to the only place tourists can visit a market in North Korea as well as open a bank account
