In Kabul - a lively, bustling city with too much going on at once and far too much to explore. Wander through the tranquil Babur Gardens, visit the National Museum, and enjoy the majestic Darul Aman Palace. We will also take a stroll along the famous Chicken Street, Bird Market, and Bookshop from the novel ‘Bookseller from Kabul’, introducing you to the vibrant local market scene. A visit to Wazir Akbar Khan Hill will give you stunning panoramic views of the capital, and a visit by Haji Mir Zaman, the famous 'last box camera of Kabul' will help you capture memories of the trip in the most unique way!
We will also have the unique opportunity to visit Future Hope Charity Organisation, an orphanage in Kabul, home to 111 children. We will spend time meeting both the staff and the children, learning about all the good work they do. A percentage of each of our tour profits will go to FHCO.
From recent history to ancient history; In Mazar-i-Sharif, we will visit the beautiful turquoise domes of the Blue Mosque, a stunning centre of Islamic art and spirituality, and explore the ancient ruins of Balkh, known as the "Mother of Cities." Similarly, in Herat, we visit the intricately designed Friday Mosque, explore the ancient Herat Citadel, visit the Tile Workshop, the recently renovated Jewish Synagogue, and go to the fascinating Jihad Museum.
We then set off for an epic road trip right through the centre of the country where we have the opportunity to visit Helmand. This is a region few travellers have had the privilege to explore. You'll pass by the historic Camp Bastion and Camp Leatherneck, key sites during the US and British military presence.
Finally, we take a trip to Afghanistan’s most conservative province of Kandahar - one with deep historical roots. Visit the sacred cloak of the Prophet Muhammad at the Tomb of Ahmad Shah Durrani, climb the Forty Steps for sweeping views, and even visit the peaceful Sufi Shrine just outside the city.
This thoughtfully crafted itinerary takes you from ancient history to recent events, immersing you in Afghanistan’s breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and fascinating past. With expert local guides, this tour is a rare opportunity to experience the soul of Afghanistan, offering both highlights and hidden gems across its storied regions.
Note: Because of weather conditions, we have not added in Bamiyan to this group tour. Bamiyan is home to the site of the famous Buddhas of Bamiyan and the Band-e-Amir Lake. If you wish to visit this after the tour, we can help you to arrange it depending on the road conditions. During the winter period, there is also skiing available. At the start of the first day in every new province, we must take a trip to the local ministry to get travel permits. This can be a few minutes or a couple of hours. The duration of this may affect our itinerary items.

30 days, 15 provinces, 1 epic tour.
Travel all of Afghanistan’s main cities and provinces, as well as some of the rarely visited but extremely beautiful countryside and undiscovered history - including the UNESCO World Heritage Site Minaret of Jam, one of the world’s tallest minarets. Not a tour for the faint-hearted, but one where stunning landscapes, local food, and ancient history will not disappoint!
Designed for curious, resilient travellers who want to see all sides of Afghanistan, this 30-day Afghanistan Mega Tour is our most comprehensive journey yet. A full month exploring the country’s best-known cities, remote valleys, and little-visited provinces in one epic loop.
We begin in Kabul, where you’ll ease into life in Afghanistan with time to get to know the group, explore the capital, and gain important context for the weeks ahead. We visit historic highlights such as the National Museum and Babur Gardens, and also visit Future Hope Charity Organisation (FHCO), a registered orphanage housing over 100 children, where a portion of this tour's profits goes to support their work.
From there, we head out on the road, following the historic route between Kabul, Ghazni, and Kandahar, stopping at Ghazni’s minarets and war museum before arriving in Afghanistan’s most conservative major city.
Continuing south and west, we travel through Helmand, home to the Ancient City of Bost and the Helmand River, before crossing desert landscapes past former coalition bases Camp Bastion and Camp Leatherneck. From here, the journey turns north to Herat, where we go behind the scenes to witness the creation of the intricate tiles of the Friday Mosque and imposing Herat Citadel.
We take a domestic flight back to Kabul to travel to Mazar-i-Sharif, where the turquoise domes of the Blue Mosque and the ruins of Balkh, the “Mother of Cities”, connect you back to Central Asia’s ancient trading world.
The itinerary then heads into the highlands. In Bamiyan, we explore the Buddhas of Bamiyan site, the ruined hilltop cities of Zuhak and Gholghola, and enjoy the beautiful turquoise lakes of the Band-e-Amir National Park.
From Bamiyan, the real adventure begins.
We push further into the central highlands to Firozhoh (Ghor) and on to the remote Minaret of Jam, a 12th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site set in a narrow river valley. Reaching Jam is a genuine achievement. A journey that many Afghans regard as a kind of pilgrimage. We mark it by camping overnight beside the river with our own cook team.
Turning north and east, we traverse rugged mountain roads to Kunduz and then into Badakhshan, one of Afghanistan’s most scenic and least-visited regions. Here we explore Faizabad, venture towards Ishkashim on the edge of the Wakhan, and have time to enjoy local village life, high-altitude valleys, and Badakhshan’s famous honey and lapis lazuli. The route then swings south into the legendary Panjshir Valley, long associated with Ahmad Shah Massoud and Afghan resistance. Here, we camp near the valley and visit his hilltop mausoleum overlooking the river.
In the final section of the tour, we head east to Kunar and Nuristan – lands of forested slopes, fast-flowing rivers, and distinctive cultures. We have a chance to hike through terraced fields and remote villages around Parun. Descending to Jalalabad, a historic winter capital at the junction of the Kabul and Kunar rivers, we then take one of Afghanistan’s most dramatic drives back to Kabul along National Highway 08, following the river through deep gorges, dams, and cliff-hugging bends.
Throughout the month, we deliberately mix guesthouses, local hotels, camping nights, and one stay at the historic Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul, giving you a sense of Afghanistan from many angles. From simple chaikhanas on mountain passes to the faded grandeur of a once-iconic international hotel.
You’ll travel with an experienced local team, including cooks on camping sections, and have frequent chances to meet local communities, try regional dishes (from pomegranates in Kandahar to yak meat in Badakhshan), and see how sharply landscapes and cultures shift from one province to the next.
This Mega Tour links Afghanistan’s classic highlights – Kabul, Herat, Mazar, Bamiyan, Kandahar – with remote regions such as Helmand, Ghor, Badakhshan, Nuristan, Kunar, Panjshir, and the Minaret of Jam.
A truly rare opportunity to see the country in all its diversity.
Whether this is your first visit or a long-awaited return, it is designed as the most in-depth, overland exploration of Afghanistan you can experience in a single journey.
This tour is our epic ‘Afghanistan Mega Tour’, which travels to over 15 provinces in Afghanistan over 30 days. If you’re looking for something shorter, this tour can be split into two groups.
Part 1 is our Travel Afghanistan Summer Tour, visiting the most popular sites in Afghanistan.
Part 2 is our Unseen Afghanistan tour and focuses on going off the beaten path and having an adventure.
This group will be limited to a small group of 8 people, as is for the true adventurer. The drives are long, the accommodations local, but the rewards in the culture, history, and landscapes are far worth it.
The safety of both our tour participants and the local guides we are working with is our number one priority. We have taken all the relevant safety precautions to create this trip and are constantly in contact with local partners. Below you can find a sample itinerary that does not include precise dates and does not have a complete list of all activities.

Due to the nature of this trip, being particularly adventurous, combined with the nature of travel in Afghanistan, all itinerary items are subject to availability. This tour contains a lot of driving. In the more rural regions, there may be no accessible Western-style toilet for both during the drives and at the accommodations, and there may be limited food options (meat, rice, bread are always available). The accommodations on this trip range from 4* hotels to local-style ‘tea houses’, homestays, and camping. For the camping, it will be on a twin share / 3-person share basis.

18 days in Kabul, Samangan, Chaghcharan
( + Minaret of Jam), Badakhshan, Panjshir,
Kunar, Nuristan, Jalalabad, Kunduz (15
provinces)
From 6500 USD per person
An 18-day expedition into Afghanistan’s remote and less-travelled regions. Starting in Bamiyan, cross into the wild central highlands and Turquoise Mountain to reach the Minaret of Jam. Continue north to Badakhshan and Panjsher, before journeying east to Kunar, Nuristan, and Jalalabad.
Adventurous and exploratory, with rugged drives, homestays, and cultural encounters in valleys rarely seen by outsiders.
This 18-day journey is designed for travellers who want to see Afghanistan beyond the capital and the classic “highlights”, combining historic sites with remote valleys, quiet provincial towns, and some of the country’s most striking mountain landscapes.
Fly into Kabul and explore the city before heading straight into the highlands in Bamiyan. The road climbs through stark mountain scenery with many chances to stop for tea, snacks, and, depending on the season, fresh honey and raw rhubarb.
From Bamiyan, you will head west into increasingly remote territory, crossing the Bakkak Pass and Sarjangal towards Firozhoh (Chaghcharan), capital of Ghor Province.
Firozhoh, set on the Hari River and ringed by open sky and mountains, serves as a staging point for reaching one of Afghanistan’s most important historical sites. The Minaret of Jam.
Reaching Jam is a genuine accomplishment and is considered by many Afghans as a pilgrimage. You follow the river valley to this 12th-century brick minaret, a UNESCO World Heritage Site decorated with Kufic inscriptions and geometric brickwork, standing alone in a narrow gorge.
Here we will camp by the river, with a private cook team, and have time simply to sit, walk, and take in the setting after the effort of the journey.
The route then swings north. We travel by road to Kunduz, a day of high passes, dust, and long views broken by tea stops in roadside chaikhanas and simple mountain lunches. From here, the journey continues into Badakhshan, one of Afghanistan’s most scenic and least visited regions.
The drive crosses the Erganak Desert and passes through Takhar before the terrain softens into green valleys and bright rivers. Badakhshan will be your base for several days, allowing time to explore Faizabad, venture towards Ishkashim on the edge of the Wakhan, and get a feel for everyday life in this Pamir region.
You will have the chance to sample yak meat, visit local markets, and, if conditions allow, drive out to Lake Shiva, as well as see the landscapes linked to Badakhshan’s long history of lapis lazuli mining and honey production.
Leaving Badakhshan, the tour turns south and west into the Panjshir Valley, a place strongly associated with Ahmad Shah Massoud and modern Afghan history. The approach involves another full day of mountain roads, moving from remote upland villages to the green riverbanks and terraced fields of Panjshir.
The final section of the tour focuses on eastern Afghanistan as we travel to Kunar, a province of forested mountains and fast-flowing rivers along the Kunar (Chitral) River, then continue on rougher tracks to Nuristan, with its wooden houses, distinctive languages, and rich local folklore.
A full day in Nuristan includes time in Parun and a 3-5 hour hike through terraced fields and forested slopes, offering rare access to one of Afghanistan’s most culturally unique regions.
Descending from Nuristan, you reach Jalalabad, a city of gardens and orange groves at the junction of the Kabul and Kunar rivers. Once a Mughal and Afghan winter capital, it provides a softer end to the overland section of the journey, with time to explore the city and reflect on how strongly climate and geography shape Afghan life.
Our tour concludes with one of the country’s most dramatic drives. The Kabul–Jalalabad Highway (NH08), following the Kabul River through gorges, past dams and cliff faces, back to the capital.
Across these 18 days, you will stay in a mix of guesthouses, simple local hotels, camping spots, and a night in ‘the finest hotel in Kabul’, the historic Intercontinental Hotel - once a flagship international property, now a faded but still atmospheric landmark overlooking the city.
You will cross a wide range of landscapes from the central plateau to the Pamir foothills, and visit some of Afghanistan’s most historically significant and least visited regions.
It is a compact but in-depth overland journey for those who want to go far beyond the standard Kabul–Bamiyan circuit and experience Afghanistan’s highlands, valleys, and eastern provinces in detail.
This tour is part 2 of our epic ‘Afghanistan Mega Tour’ which travels to over 15 provinces in Afghanistan over 30 days. It is rugged, raw, and requires an adventurous spirit as we travel to rural locations, camp, and stay in local-style guesthouses and hotels.
If you want a more standard tour to Afghanistan in the summer, covering the highlights and popular tourist destinations.
Check out our Travel Afghanistan Summer Tour here.
Or, if you want to visit all the highlights and get off the beaten path, spend a month in Afghanistan for our full Travel Afghanistan Mega Tour.

In the more rural regions, there may be no accesible western style toilet for both during the drives and at the accommodations, and there may be limited food options (meat, rice, bread are always available). The accommodations on this trip range from 4* hotels to local style ‘tea houses’, homestays, and camping. For the camping it will be on a twin share / 3-person share basis.
Be prepared for an adventure!

of Afghan women.
From 3040 USD per person
The shorter version of our signature women's tour to Afghanistan. Following the success of our two Afghanistan women's tours in 2025 and the 2026 Afghanistan women's tour selling out in days, we are introducing one more women-only tour for 2026.
Blend cultural immersion, breathtaking landscapes, and empowering encounters with Afghan women and communities on this unique tour, travelling to the best that Afghanistan has on offer alongside Afghan women.
Koryo Tours’ Afghan Sisters Travel Afghanistan signature women’s tour offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect with local women and explore Afghanistan through a uniquely female perspective.
This is an Afghanistan tour designed by women, for women.
It focuses on learning about the lives of Afghan women in various contexts, whilst taking in the many highlights Afghanistan has to offer in three of the main provinces;
Experience the warmth of Afghan hospitality, the resilience of its communities, and the inspiring stories of Afghan women, while also witnessing the breathtaking beauty of Afghanistan’s historic landmarks, bustling markets, and tranquil national parks.
Travelling by air and road, from the more liberal to the deeply traditional, we check off must-see destinations while gaining deep insights into the daily lives of its people.
Beginning and ending in Kabul, the tour starts with a chance to settle in, explore local markets, visit the National Museum, and enjoy the peaceful Babur Gardens. We’ll then fly to Herat, where you’ll explore the historic Friday Mosque and Herat Citadel, before starting our scenic road trip to Bamiyan.
Bamiyan is home to the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Buddhas of Bamiyan, and the beautiful turquoise lake of Band-e-Amir*. We spend three nights in Bamiyan to explore the sites, and also to take part in numerous unique women-focused activities.
Apart from the highlights, we will also take part in several women-focused activities.
Discover vibrant craft and artisan markets, where hundreds of licensed female vendors showcase their skills. Here, you can shop for beautiful handmade items while directly supporting women in the community. In a more hands-on experience, join a local embroidery class led by artisans who have turned their traditional craft into a sustainable livelihood.
We will also visit multiple organisations dedicated to catering to the development and empowerment of local women and children.
Food lovers will enjoy a traditional cooking class, learning how to prepare authentic Afghan dumplings – both vegetarian and meat options are available. For dining, there are opportunities to savour delicious meals at restaurants owned and run by women, featuring female chefs passionate about showcasing Afghan cuisine. And if coffee is more of your thing, we’ll also have a chance to enjoy some coffee brewed at the local female-run coffee shop.
(A complete women-focused activity list will be provided upon booking).
A percentage of every booking on our Afghanistan tours is donated either to the Women's Retreat Center (Afghan Sisters Tours) or Future Hope Charity Organisation orphanage in Kabul. You can also donate to each of these privately.
