Koryo Tours, official partners of the Pyongyang Marathon, regret to inform participants that the 2026 Pyongyang International Marathon will not take place this year.

This decision was communicated to us by the DPR Korea Athletics Association and has been confirmed as final.

Official Cancellation of Pyongyang Marathon 2026

Why was the Pyongyang Marathon Cancelled?

At present, no further information has been provided regarding the reasons for the cancellation, beyond the wording in the official notice above.

We understand that this decision has been taken at a level above the organisers of the event itself.

We recognise that this announcement will be disappointing to many runners who had already registered or were planning to participate in the event. The cancellation is unexpected and is not a decision that has been taken by the tour organisers or event partners involved in facilitating international participation.

Refunds and Deposits

All deposits paid for the 2026 Pyongyang International Marathon will be returned in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined on our website.

Participation in the Pyongyang Marathon 2027

Participants also have the option to retain their deposit for a future event.

Those who choose this option will have their place held for the 2027 Pyongyang International Marathon, or for another future North Korea tour when travel resumes.

Please note that:

• No official date has yet been announced for the 2027 Pyongyang International Marathon.
• Tour packages for the 2027 event cannot be offered at this time.
• Reservations for the 2027 marathon will not be opened publicly at this stage.
• Priority access will be given to those who had already registered for the cancelled 2026 event and choose to retain their deposit.
• Further information about future events will be communicated once details are confirmed.
