The Short Answer - October to April
The more important answer - as soon as possible.
In the larger sense, the best time to visit Socotra is now - before the world catches on.
Since I started visiting Socotra 3 years ago, the tourism industry there is ‘booming’. Now, this is a comparison only to what it used to be, which was next to nothing.
But there are a lot more tourists there now than there used to be. And with that - tourist infrastruture.
If you prefer the raw island vibes, no internet, wild camping, only nature as a toilet - go now, or else you’ll miss this bit. In fact, a lot of this has already gone.
Most campsites are well-established and have access to at least basic toilet or shower facilities.
Most companies travel with Starlink and have generators to charge devices.
If you’re the opposite and prefer a bit more infrastructure, if the idea of camping is scary for you and if you like things a bit more touristy and well-established - perhaps wait a couple of years.
It’s coming.
The travel to Socotra season runs roughly from October through April, and this is when every tour operates.
Expect warm, sunny days ideal for swimming and snorkelling, comfortable nights for beach camping, calm seas for the Qalansiya to Shuab boat trip, and the gin-clear skies that make Socotran stargazing legendary.
Within that window, the sweet spots have flavours.
October and November bring a freshly rinsed island, with landscapes at their greenest after any rains and the season's first quiet weeks.
December through February offer the coolest, most comfortable temperatures, perfect for the Hoq Cave hike and the Arher dune climb, with pleasantly crisp plateau nights at Homhil and Dixam, so pack that warm layer.
March and April warm steadily, with superb sea conditions, and reward travellers who like their swims long and their evenings balmy. You can also see the Bottle trees’ pink blossom during these months, too.
There's no wrong pick inside the window; there are only preferences.
From roughly June through September, the southwest monsoon takes over, and it is not a polite drizzle.
Ferocious winds rake the island, seas turn dangerous, boat trips become impossible, and flights have historically been suspended or severely disrupted for the duration.
Socotris themselves batten down for the season. The island effectively closes to visitors, and no responsible operator runs circuits in its teeth.
Typhoons are not uncommon during this time and they can have devastating effects on this fragile landscape.
May and late September are the shoulder gambles, transitional and uncertain.
This is one of the main things to consider once you’ve chosen your month.

The flights generally run a week, and schedules publish only a few months in advance, and tour dates follow the flight schedule, so book your tour spot first and your international flights only once the island schedule is confirmed.
