Manpo, China-DPRK border town

The city of Manpo (만포 | 滿浦) is a North Korean city located on the China-DPRK border on the Yalu River. Located in Chagang Province, the city is the newest city in North Korea opened to foreign travelers following the opening of a new border crossing in April 2019. Manpo is located across from the Chinese city of Ji’an, former capital of the ancient Koguryo kingdom.

Manpo Information

Manpo is small city of approximately 115,000 people. The city is involved in iron, lead, zinc, and phosphorus production. There is a rail line from Manpo to Pyongyang.

Visiting Manpo

Chinese tour groups visited Manpo in early April 2019 following the opening of a new border crossing at Ji'an. Other foreign tourists will be able to visit soon with tours starting in the Chinese border city of Ji'an. Stay tuned for more word on tours to Manpo (coming soon!), the newest city opened to foreigners in the DPRK.
