Private Tours from Northeast China (Shenyang, Dandong or Yanji), or Vladivostok, Russia

Flying into the DPRK from Shenyang, China or Vladivostok, Russia.

The road to the DPRK via China’s Northeast, or the Russian Far East, is one less travelled, but by no means less fascinating.

Once known to the world as ‘Manchuria’, the territory has long been at the cultural crossroads of Chinese, Korean, Russian, Japanese, Mongol, and Manchu cultures in northeast Asia. Two ancient medieval Korean kingdoms, Koguryo and Palhae, once ruled over these lands, and the territory that now comprises the DPRK.

the capital of China’s Liaoning Province, is a major industrial city in northeast China with a multi-ethnic population. Shenyang also boasts historical buildings dating back to the early days of the Manchu Qing Dynasty, as well as more modern buildings dating from the Chinese Republic and the period of Japanese rule over the puppet state of Manchukuo. The city also has a large ethnic Korean community. In the Xita neighborhood you can find North Korean, South Korean, and Korean-Chinese businesses all lining the same streets.

is the eastern terminus of the Trans-Siberian Railroad and Russia’s major Pacific port. Despite its relative youth as a city, Vladivostok has seen its fair share of historic events and related sights to explore.

From Dandong it is possible to catch the Beijing-Pyongyang train, or visit the Korean city of Sinuiju located across the Yalu (Kr. Amnok River).
