Private Tours

Private Tours from Beijing

Beijing is the main transit point for travel to the DPR Korea from which there are the most transport options year round by flight or train.

As the capital of China, Beijing has a rich cultural heritage and shares historic ties with the Korean peninsula. In addition to the highlights- the Great Wall, Forbidden City, and Summer Palace; experience traditional Beijing life in hutong neighborhoods – get a preview a taste of Korean food at one of Beijing’s many DPRK-operated restaurants.

The Koryo Tours office is also located in Beijing. Stop by and say ‘annyonghasimnika’, browse our collection of Korean film and propaganda art, or get answers to all your questions about travel to the DPRK.

We offer three types of tours from Beijing year-round:

Koryo Special Opportunities and Experimental Tours from Beijing

From time to time, we offer limited-time opportunities and deals for adventurous and flexible travelers. Our staff travel to the DPRK every few weeks and while in-country we often hear about upcoming events, activities, and new locations to visit. Often confirmation comes just a month or a few weeks before travel. For such special opportunities, we will do our best to advertise ahead of time here.

From experience, we also know that sometimes final confirmation for new events and activities is not always possible ahead of time. Yet these can often be the most rewarding times in Korea. To offset the uncertainty we discounted rates to those willing to take a chance and explore. Our Experimental Tours often focus on a specific theme with a set itinerary so that even if we can’t guarantee a particular event or activity then you will still come away from the country with an in-depth experience related to that subject.

Want to be among the first travelers to do something or see a new area? Interested in a themed trip to Korea? Check back with us periodically!

*The train option is unfortunately not available to those travelling on a US passport at this time

*Note: Tours leaving from Beijing can exit Korea via other destinations but prices will differ based on purchase of two one-way tickets.

Transportation

Beijing has the most transportation options for visiting Korea. It is a 1 ½ hour flight or 23 hour train ride from Pyongyang.

Air Koryo operates three regular flights a week, year-round, and four or five flights a week during peak season. Air China runs two flights a week year-round and costs an additional 180 EUR each way.

International trains run between Beijing and Pyongyang four days a week. On a day when the international train does not run it is possible to depart Pyongyang via a local Korean train, which will then take you to Dandong, China (over the DPRK-China border), where you will need to transfer to a local Chinese train for your onward travel to Beijing. We typically book soft sleeper tickets (4 beds per berth) for our customers but in high-season and during Chinese national holidays tickets may sell out and only hard sleeper (6 beds per berth) may be available. Note that for train departures you can deduct 50 EUR from the costs listed above*.
